Modern Futhark is a modernisation of the eldest runic language, Elder Futhark; my typeface aims to maintain the abstract rigid nature of these runes while reconceptualising them to fit a modern environment alongside this I wanted to showcase these runes in the same context the Germanic tribe did in the 1st century, they used to engrave these texts into stone which is why they are straight and rigid as itβs challenging to engrave in curved lines with the tools that they were using, I laser etched my designs into limestone. Then, I returned the stones to the quarry where I found them, leaving them to be discovered by the public with no context.Β
Outcome:
The outcomes from this project include a collection of letterpress stamps, a publication showcasing my typeface, and a group of stones into which I laser-etched my designs.
